The Psalms Project (Psalms 1-15)
The Psalms are musical. Many musicians have composed beautiful songs with the text or paraphrase of the Psalms, and we can all benefit from their creativity. I’ve started compiling a list of all the Psalms set to music – but not just from one composer. This list is entirely subjective: it’s entirely based on what I have personally chosen as my favorite arrangement of each Psalm. For some, there are almost limitless options; others Psalms only provide a few options from which I can choose. Please note that some of these arrangements follow the text closely; others follow a paraphrase, and others are only generally based on the text. I hope you enjoy, and I’ll plan to provide another ‘installment’ in the future!
Please note that any song included here is not an endorsement of the artist; nor do I have any rights to any of this music.
Psalm 1
Psalm 2
The dramatic nature of this Psalm does a good job of highlighting the significance of this Psalm for understanding the rest of the book; however, I’m not a fan of the rendition, ‘Today I have become your father.’
Psalm 3
Psalm 4
Psalm 5
Psalm 6
Psalm 7
Psalm 8
Psalm 9
Psalm 10
Psalm 11
Psalm 12
Psalm 13
Psalm 14
Psalm 15
This is a great rendition, but it’s best to skip forward to 0:23 to avoid the introductory noise.
Thanks for this, Daniel! Have you ever heard of Poor Bishop Hooper from Kansas? Check them out if you get a chance. They are publishing a Psalm each week until they reach Psalm 150. Here’s one of their songs:
Yes, I have heard of them! Thanks for mentioning the group – it’s a group that I’ve also listened to as I’ve searched for some of different versions of the Psalms. And I’ll continue to listen to some of them as I continue to find new Psalm recordings!
