Three Reasons to Keep Sharing Your Faith
“As for you, brothers, do not grow weary in doing good.” (2 Thessalonians 3:13)
In evangelism, as in many other aspects of the Christian life, faithfulness is often as important, or more important, than skill. Consistency in sharing your faith glorifies God and brings honor to Jesus. Here are three reasons to continue on in this discipline.
Every Evangelistic Action is Remembered by God.
Jesus encouraged his disciples that even the smallest action of obedience will receive the blessing of God:
“And whoever gives one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.” (Matthew 10:42)
We often think of our lives in terms of the ‘big things’ that we are going about; but God’s perspective is different. Our Father observes everything, and the most insignificant actions obtains their reward:
“And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” (Matthew 6:5-6)
This means that God sees and remembers even your smallest efforts to honor Jesus. Don’t omit even the little opportunities to point your conversations back to Jesus!
Every Evangelistic Conversation will Bear the Fruit God Intends
Thousands of years ago, the prophet Isaiah made it clear that God’s Word always has its intended effect:
“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:10-11)
Even if we want our evangelistic conversations to have a specific effect, God uses them in the way that he sees fit. You may not see how your words affect someone, but God does. In a sense, this is a key lesson of Christianity: learning to do the right thing, and leaving the results to God.
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” (2 Corinthians 5:7)
Every Sinner is Saved by Evangelism
Every Christian alive today is a believer because someone, in some way, passed on the message of Jesus.
This isn’t always obvious. Some people may have found a Bible – but there was a translator who translated it, a printer who printed it, and someone who got it in their hands. Some people hear a sermon. Some people have a conversation. Almost always, believers can point to a specific individual who faithfully shared the gospel. And always, there was someone who transmitted the message.
In other words, without a faithful witness, the world will not know Jesus.
“And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)
