Dependence on God
The Lord brings trials and difficulties, as well as challenging situations of all kinds, in order that the Christian might be constantly dependent on him. Every challenge is given in order that we might go back to him and find our sufficiency in him. The stream of situations like this is nearly endless. We find ourselves in situations where we do not know the best course of action – in order that we might seek wisdom from him. We find ourselves in situations that we cannot change – in order that we would seek his help. We find ourselves amid temptations that seem insurmountable – in order that we would find our strength and sufficiency not in ourselves, but in him. What then? Do not try to flee what God ordains, but bring each moment to him. Learn to be dependent on him in everything. It is the grace of God that drives you back to him, time after time. Far better to be in difficulty, but dependent on God – than to be at ease, but rarely approaching the throne of grace.
